Great Plains Outfitters - News

Hello Friends,

MERRY CHRISTMAS and Happy New Year to all. Hope everyone had a happy and healthy year, and 2012 brings joy and happiness to everyone.
2011 was another great year here at GPO, with some old friends returning and making new ones as well. We started once again with the Maximum Archery World Tour crew bow hunting Mule Deer in Wyoming. We got lots of great footage that will air on the Sportsmans Channel Friday nights @ 7:30pm mst. The Maximum Archery Big Buck Tour will make its Wyoming stop with GPO 9/1/2012 we have a few spots left if anyone is interested!
We then moved to our favorite camp of the year, Archery Elk camp with the economy the way it is Elk hunters were few and far between. Rick Fruit along with his wife Jean joined us for a fantastic hunt. Rick harvested a beautiful bull on day 2 that gross scored 375&4/8ths.
Then it was back to Deer camp for 2 weeks of rifle hunting. Carol McCord, Jim Wisvari, and Ray House all Harvesting Great Bucks on week one. Mike Bruno, Vern Larson, and Bob Harper getting it done on week two. Also Randall Scott joined us again for the 3rd year in a row along with his friend Jimmy Conine for an area 34 Antelope hunt during this period with both of the scoring nice Bucks.
Then it was back to our home away from home the LaPrele Guard Station for Antelope and Elk hunts. Keith Hollendonner Eric Gale , Mike Hussey, Jim Burnworth, and Ray Bunney all joined us for Antelope with everyone getting it done. This was a special time as I was able to guide along side my Dad and Brother for the first time in many years, and just like the old days we got it done. Chad Raver and Andrew Urosite also did a fantastic job for the TEAM. The Elk hunt was a good hunt also with all of us hunting very hard just not having the luck we needed, Bill Lundquist and Bob Pavlis did all we asked it just didn’t happen for them.
We then finished up the month with Antelope hunts taking some great goats and meeting new friends. I also was able to take my oldest Daughter Grayson on an Antelope hunt during this time, we didn’t have a lot of time but it was a GREAT time and I cant wait to spend more time with her hunting in the future. We will get ya one Gracie!!
I returned home for a couple short days then was off to Kansas with my Mom and Dad Larry and Shirley Jenkins, and best bud and hunting/guiding partner Justin Kleint. Justin has some awesome ground leased and has managed it well. My dad Larry was able to harvest a Whopper buck with his bow, his first bow kill ever! Justin however harvested a true Kansas giant, 190&4/8ths. I was able to get a doe for the freezer.
I returned home for a day or two of rest then have been chasing Mountain Lions ever since. Conditions have been a little tough, not much snow and cold temps, but we are getting it done. We have harvested 6 so far and along with Ryan Merritt of Smokey Canyon Outfitters we are still after them.
It is getting that time of year again to start thinking of next years hunts. Application deadlines are Elk 1/31 2012, Deer and Antelope 3/15/2012, and Moose and Sheep 2/28/2012. However you can apply for all at the same time after Janurary 1st.
I would like to thank the whole GPO crew also for another GREAT year!
Bridget, Grayson, and Jhett Jenkins, Justin Kleint, Andrew Urosite, Shad Shimic, Chad Raver, Cathy Wharton, Robby Wolfley, Larry Jenkins, Tedd Jenkins, and Ryan Merritt. Merry Christmas Everyone!!
